Dujiangyan Weir – Sichuan, China

Located within the historic Dujiangyan Scenic Area in Sichuan, China, this large-scale outdoor installation uses Wharfedale Pro’s IP66-rated loudspeaker systems to provide reliable, high-quality sound reinforcement for the Dujiangyan Night Weir experience.

Spanning a 1.5 km visitor route through plazas, gardens and woodland, the installation required a system capable of delivering consistent coverage while withstanding year-round exposure to rain, humidity and changing weather conditions.

The main performance areas use multiple WLA-28XF all-weather line array elements to provide long-throw coverage and high output for live performances, narration and music. Complementing the main arrays, TYPHON-X12F and TYPHON-X8F weatherproof loudspeakers deliver fill coverage throughout walkways, viewing areas and narrower sections of the attraction, ensuring clear, intelligible audio across the entire route.

Designed specifically for permanent outdoor installations, the WLA-28XF and TYPHON-XF series feature IP66-rated protection, waterproof drivers and crossovers, and weather-resistant enclosure construction. These features ensure dependable performance despite the region’s high humidity and frequent rainfall.

To preserve the integrity of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, the system was installed using a combination of flown arrays, pole-mounted loudspeakers and discreet ground-stacked subwoofers. This flexible approach provides comprehensive sound coverage while minimising visual impact and avoiding permanent alterations to the historic surroundings.
