Compact performance
The WLA-28 has been developed to condense the extreme SPL and long-throw capabilities of the WLA-12 in to an all- new 2 x 8” configuration. The smaller configuration is no-less of a speaker, in fact the smaller configuration is what makes it so versatile – with the ability to dismantle your stack into smaller units, the compact addition to the WLA series is perfectly suited for rental companies and for many other portable PA applications where high power and high sound pressure in an array formation are essential. Of course, this is also well suited to fixed installation including theatres and concert halls.
Huge power potential
The WLA-28 uses a pair of high powered 8” LF drivers and a 3.2” neodymium HF driver to generate an impressive 132dB Max SPL and 1600W peak power. Arrays of up to 12 WLA-28 modules can be suspended using the WLA-28 Fly Frame, or up to 8 WLA-28 combined with a WLA-15B for maximum impact.
Extend your Bass
To extend the low end of your array, is the Wharfedale Pro WLA-15B Sub. Reaching depths of 35Hz and with an output potential of 2800 Watts peak it’s a perfect match for the WLA-28. The low end response applies itself to the most demanding music genres with the same long- throw capabilities of it’s smaller counterpart.
Rock solid
As with all Wharfedale Pro PA systems, years of expertise is behind a loudspeaker built to last, with thanks to our high standards of quality control. Both the WLA-15B and WLA-28 are coated in the high quality Rhino Rock paint finish – a texture with a professional, discrete aesthetic whilst being prepared for the rigours of life on the road.
At the heart of the WLA-28 is 2 x 8″ custom Wharfedale Pro LF drivers.
These feature 2.0″ voice coils to ensure high efficiency and high power handling.
The HF Compression driver is also custom made by Wharfedale Pro. Using a massive 3.2″ voice coil, this compression driver is coupled to a 100° x 10° waveguide.
These custom designed transducers are what give a WLA-28 system its incredible sound and power handling capacity.

Arrays can be assembled using only WLA-28 line array elements or with WLA-15B / WLA-28SUB Subwoofers at the top of the array.
The WLA-28 Common Fly frame supports up to 12 x WLA-28 elements and a WLA-28SUB.

Imagine your dream system! You can configure a WLA series rig to suit your needs!
To help your design and system preparations, you can download some recommended system diagrams. These range from small to large and use a selection of our different amplifier ranges.

WLA-28 rigging doubles up as an optimised ground stacking system, using the WLA-15B or WLA-28SUB subwoofer as a base.
Arrays of WLA-28 line array elements can be aimed downwards by as much as 10° to cover audience areas close to a stage, as well as upward by as much as 10° in order to better cover distant balcony seating areas.

In BI-AMP mode, two power amplifiers can be used. This gives you the advantage of being able to select the best power amplifier specifications for each driver inside the loudspeaker. In a BI-AMP configuration, an external crossover is used to separate the frequencies and this splits the signal to the dedicated LF amplifier and the HF amplifier. This way, each amplifier is only working on the given frequency range and, in turn, is powering the corresponding driver inside the loudspeaker.
In PASSIVE mode, a single amplifier can be used to power all drivers inside the loudspeaker. The full frequency range is put into the loudspeaker and the loudspeakers’ internal crossover separates the frequencies, delivering the right frequencies to the right driver. In the example of a 2-way passive loudspeaker, this means that the single amplifier is powering both the HF compression driver and the LF transducer. The internal crossover takes care of both the frequency and power separation.

Protect your WLA array system with the WLA-28 and WLA-210X tourbags.
Removeable panels and front grille allow the WLA element to be used even while in its protective padded covering. Ideal for rental and touring applications, these tourbags will keep your system safe and protected during its hardworking lifespan!
For WLA-28 and use the WLA-210XSUB Tour bag for WLA-28SUB.

A Versadrive DSP (such as SC-48 FIR) or a DP-N series amplifier with internal FIR filtering is highly recommended to get the most from the system. Phase, EQ and filtering should be applied and this way, the physics of the system can be truly optimised – delivering that sub-bass, power and clarity that this system can deliver.
