Compare The Series

OVERVIEW

The DR Series is a range of robust, durable amplification solutions designed for both fixed installation and live sound applications — anywhere reliable, high-output performance and real bang for buck are required.

The DR4800 and DR6000 deliver powerful two-channel performance in a rugged 2U steel chassis. For 4 Ω systems, the DR4800 provides 2500 W per channel, while the DR6000 steps up to 3150 W per channel, offering the headroom needed for demanding audio environments.

Expanding the range, the DR6404 brings four channels of high-power Class D amplification, combining efficient power delivery with the same robust construction and engineering the DR Series is known for. Designed specifically for professional installation environments, the DR6404 delivers 1600 W per channel at 4 Ω along with reliable long-term performance and effective thermal management and operational stability.

Across the series, connectivity is solid and practical, with XLR inputs plus link outputs and speakON™ speaker connections to ensure dependable signal flow. Input sensitivity is adjustable (0.775 V, 1 V, or 35 dB), allowing easy integration with a wide range of system designs. All models maintain a wide 20 Hz – 20 kHz frequency response with low distortion (THD < 0.05%) for clean, accurate audio reproduction.

Advanced cooling systems and comprehensive protection circuits guard against short circuits and overheating, ensuring the DR Series can handle sustained high workloads with confidence — making it a dependable choice for professionals who demand consistency, durability, and performance.

Joining the Wharfedale Pro DR Series, the new DR6404 brings four channels of high-power Class D amplification together with the robust construction and engineering the range is known for. Designed for professional installation environments, the DR6404 delivers reliable performance while maintaining efficient thermal management and long-term stability.

Built into a heavy-duty 19-inch steel chassis, the DR6404 uses a front-to-back airflow path with temperature-controlled fan cooling, ensuring consistent heat dissipation when installed in tightly packed racks. Internally, a high-current toroidal transformer provides stable power delivery, supporting demanding loads while maintaining excellent dynamic headroom and low noise performance.

With selectable input sensitivity and fixed gain modes, DR6404 allows easy integration into a wide range of system designs and controller configurations. Comprehensive protection circuitry safeguards against short circuits, no-load operation, power-on/off noise and RF interference, helping to protect both the amplifier and connected loudspeakers.

With four channels of flexible output power and the proven engineering of the DR Series, the DR6404 is a dependable solution for professionals who require controlled multi-channel power in a single, rugged amplifier.

DR series are built around a massive heavy-duty toroidal transformer.  This transformer delivers the ability for rapid burst power, which leads to improved dynamics.

An DR series amplifier features comprehensive protection circuitry. This ensures that no matter what problems might exist with external cabling, AC power or loudspeakers, the amplifier will protect itself, and its surroundings.

Front panel LED’s give immediate and clear feedback to the situation. Should an external fault occur, the red LED ‘Fault’ light will illuminate and the amp will go into Protection mode. A rear panel ‘Breaker’ button is then available to reset the amplifier once the external fault has been diagnosed and removed.

Handy ‘Clip’ LED’s are also visible from the front panel. Even from a distance, its simple and clear to see and understand the status of the amp.

Around the back of the DR4800 and DR6000 are the balanced inputs and outputs along with configuration switches.

A handy feature are the 2 x XLR link outputs which allow for easy ‘daisy chaining’ of multiple amps – removing the need for external patching or excessive cabling.  Around the back is also the input sensitivity switch selectable between 0.775 V, 1 V  and 35 dB.

The main ‘Bridge / Stereo / Parallel’ mode switch is also on the rear. STEREO mode makes the two channels work independently. CH1 input signal goes to CH1 output and CH2 signal goes to CH2 output.

In BRIDGE mode the CH1 output is used with the described pin out +1 = + / +2 = –
This is controlled by using the CH1 volume control.

PARALLEL mode makes CH1 input signal go to both CH1 and CH2 output sockets. The input socket of CH2 has no effect. The channel volumes can be adjusted independently.

Around the back of the DR6404, you’ll find a little bit more due to the extra two channels that feature on the model.
